Do you know?
El Niño
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and other climate agencies forecast a “very strong” El Niño peaking between Nov 2026 and Feb 2027, with Niño 3.4 ocean temperatures already exceeding +2°C. The event is expected to persist into 2027, with impacts lasting beyond the peak warming period. Some forecasters describe it as potentially the strongest in living memory, raising the risk of more frequent and severe extremes worldwide. Typical impacts include heightened flood risk in parts of South America and the southern US, and increased drought and heat stress across Southeast Asia, Australia, and southern Africa. While El Niño is a natural pattern, its effects are superimposed on an already warming climate, amplifying temperature and rainfall extremes.
