Do you know?

El Niño
El Niño is a naturally occurring climate phenomenon marked by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, representing the warm phase of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle that typically recurs every 2-7 years and lasts around 9-12 months. El Niño, which is Spanish for “the boy child,” occurs when the usual east-to-west Pacific trade winds weaken or reverse, allowing warm surface water to shift eastward toward South America, suppressing the normal upwelling of cold, nutrient-rich water and disrupting atmospheric circulation patterns. Scientists officially declare an El Niño when sea surface temperatures in the key “Niño 3.4” region remain at least 0.5°C above the long-term average for 5 consecutive 3-month periods.
