Do you know?
AI selloff
AI is now the US economy’s main growth bet: markets and policymakers expect generative AI and automation to spark a fresh productivity wave as past engines (globalisation, shale, smartphones) wane. Investment, valuations and optimism assume AI will boost output per worker enough to offset ageing, high debt and weaker global growth. If those large, fast productivity gains don’t materialise, GDP and corporate earnings will be overestimated, leaving non‑AI sectors facing higher costs and weaker demand without efficiency offsets. That would likely force a broad re‑rating of US equities—beyond just AI and semiconductor stocks—raising the risk of a market‑wide sell‑off rather than a contained tech correction.
